Rashist was captured in late April near the village of Rovnopil in the Donetsk region when Ukrainian armed forces soldiers overturned his tank. The investigators established that the prisoner had a “long career” in the terrorist groups of the “DNR”.

At the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he officially joined the occupying 8th Army as a T72 tank gunner.
The court found Rashista guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Art. 111 (treason) and part 2 of Art. 260 (creation of armed formations not provided for by law or participation in their activities).
Earlier, law enforcement agencies identified servicemen from the 1st Tank Regiment of the 2nd Guards Taman Motorized Rifle Division of the Russian Federation who actually fired at close range from a tank in the premises of a regional hospital in the Sumy region. Hospital staff and patients, including pregnant women, were in the room at the time.
