The regional Ministry of Transport reports that all contractors have been instructed to be fully prepared to eliminate the possible consequences of heavy snowfall.
On the federal roads of the Kola Arctic, about 90 units of specialized equipment will provide snow removal and anti-icing materials. In addition to combined road machines, motor graders, rotary snow plows, excavators, loaders, bulldozers and wheeled tractors with various attachment devices are used to remove drifts and ice from tracks. The total volume of supplies of anti-icing materials is more than 110 thousand tons.
To ensure safe and continuous movement of vehicles on public roads of regional importance in the Murmansk region during the winter period, sand bases are 100 percent filled, road equipment is updated and prepared. More than 200 units of road equipment will fight the elements: excavators needed to work in difficult snow-covered areas, 5 powerful SDLGs, Case, Caterpillar motor graders, combined road machines and milling-rotor snow plows.
As weather conditions worsen, the number of workers and special vehicles employed in road maintenance increases.
